Update #3 Winter Storm Stella

March 13, 2017 – 10:00 am

Dear Residents:

The National Weather Service has updated our area to a Blizzard Warning beginning at 8:00 pm tonight until Tuesday, 6:00 pm. We are expecting strong winds and snow accumulation of 10-14 inches. The Marlboro Department of Public Works (DPW) has been pre-treating roadways since early this morning. I have activated the Marlboro’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) they have begun the necessary preparations.

We have learned from past weather emergencies that multiple lines of communication are imperative. Please visit http://www.marlboro-nj.gov/resident-communications.html and register for email and social media. We also suggest that your register both your home and cell phones since most home phones are unable to receive reverse 911 calls during a power outage.

The Marlboro OEM has suspended all curbside brush pickup immediately. No additional debris may be placed curbside until further notice by the OEM. There will be no recycling pickup on Tuesday, March 14; Zone 5 will have a makeup day on Saturday. The Township Recycling Yard will be closed on Wednesday. Residents are reminded, per Township ordinance, to remove vehicles and all other items from the roadways when the road is snow covered. This allows the plows to clear more effectively, and reduces the likelihood of damage to vehicles.

My office has been in contact with JCP&L. Strong winds mean an increased chance of power outages. The company has additional line, substation, forestry and hazard responder crews available. Updates and additional information will be provided as the storm moves into the JCP&L service area. Customers are reminded to stay away from any downed wires and report any downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Police. To report outages call 1-888-LIGHTSS (888-544-4877), or go to www.jcp-l.com.

Please take a moment to locate and review the “Surviving the Snow” BROCHURE in the center of the recycling calendar mailed to your home and on line at for easy access to emergency phone numbers and websites. Check the Township website Storm Updates http://www.marlboro-nj.gov/storm/Storm_updates.html for past preparedness information. Please make sure you have required medications, filled your gas tanks, have fresh flashlight batteries and charged cell phones.

You can find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/marlborotownship/ and Twitter @MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page. We will continue to update the public through social media, email, and reverse 9-1-1. The Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100. For emergencies, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.

Please stay safe and thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.
