Update #1 Winter Storm Stella

March 12, 2017 – 12:00 pm

Dear Residents:

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area beginning 8 PM Monday, March 13 through 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 14. At this time, the Weather Service is predicting 12 inches of snow and strong winds that will gust to 40-50 miles per hour. Marlboro’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is monitoring the weather conditions, and the forecast should be more certain later today. I want to take this opportunity to remind you to ensure that you and your loved ones are prepared for any weather emergency.

As per the EMAIL sent earlier this week, all brush pickup has been postponed due to the pending weather. At this time, NO BRUSH SHOULD BE PLACED CURBSIDE. The Marlboro Office of Emergency Management reminds us that during snow storms, all vehicles, garbage cans and basketball hoops must be removed from the roadways. It impedes snow removal and increases the chance of damage to your property. The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will notify residents via social media and reverse 911 if collections will be suspended due to weather conditions, in which case no debris may be placed curbside.

It bears repeating that having multiple lines of communication between the township and our residents is most important during emergencies. If you have not done so already, please visit our “Communications for Residents” section on the Township Website www.marlboro-nj.gov/resident-communications and sign up for any or all of the communication options available. Please register your home and cell phones for Police reverse 9-1-1 calls and text message updates. Sign up for Township email blasts and find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/marlborotownship/ and Twitter @MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page.

Please take a moment to locate and review the “Surviving the Snow” BROCHURE in the center of the recycling calendar mailed to your home and on line at for easy access to emergency phone numbers and websites. Check the Township website Storm Updates http://www.marlboro-nj.gov/storm/Storm_updates.html for past preparedness information.

Strong winds can bring power outages. Outages should be reported directly to JCP&L using one of their many methods available. You may call JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), click here to report your outage online or here for text messaging. Outage information is also available on JCP&L’s 24/7 Power Center Maps and on the JCP&L Facebook page. Please immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Division of Police. Never go near a downed power line, even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity. Please take a moment to review Generator Safety Tips.

As always, the Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100. For emergencies, please do not hesitate to call 9-1-1. We will continue to update the public through email, reverse 9-1-1 and social media, as necessary. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.
