Winter Storm Jonas Update #3
Friday - 1/21/2016 - 3PM

Dear Residents:

The National Weather Service has updated our area to a blizzard warning in effect from midnight tonight to 10 am Sunday morning. A Blizzard Warning is issued for winter storms with sustained or frequent winds of 35 mph or higher with considerable falling and/or blowing snow that frequently reduces visibility to 1/4 of a mile or less. As of this time, snow accumulations of 8 to 17 inches are expected. Marlboro’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has been activated and met this morning to complete the necessary preparations.

We have learned from past weather emergencies that multiple lines of communication are imperative. Please visit and register for email and social media. We also suggest that your register both your home and cell phones since most home phones are unable to receive reverse 911 calls during a power outage.

In the event of a prolonged power outage, the Township is prepared to provide for warming and charging stations for residents in need at the Township Municipal facilities. Please contact the Office of Emergency Management at (732) 536-0100 should the need arise. Additional information will be provided as the storm nears and throughout the duration of the event.

Also, please take all necessary precautions when operating household generators. FEMA has provided important guidance concerning generator use which may be found at

The Marlboro Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has suspended all curbside brush pickup immediately, effective until further notice. The Township Recycling Yard will be closed on Saturday, January 23, 2016. Residents are reminded, per Township ordinance, to remove vehicles and all other items from the roadways when the road is snow covered. This includes portable basketball nets which are placed curbside by residents in certain neighborhoods. This allows the plows to clear more effectively, and reduces the likelihood of damage to vehicles.

Please check with your private garbage company for trash pickup suspensions. Finally, please be mindful to clear snow from around fire hydrants so that they are accessible to emergency personnel should the need arises.

Please review the Surviving the Snow brochure in the centerfold of your DPW Recycling Calendar or on line at 'Surviving the Snow' . This blizzard brings with it high winds and a chance of power outages. Report outages directly to JCP&L using one of their many methods available. You may call JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), click here to report your outage online or here for text messaging. Outage information is also available on JCP&L’s 24/7 Power Center Maps and on the JCP&L Facebook page. For easier reporting, please download the app and register in advance.

Please immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Division of Police. Never go near a downed power line, even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity. The Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100. For emergencies, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.

You can find us on Facebook and Twitter @MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page. We will continue to update the public through social media, email, and reverse 9-1-1. Please stay safe, make sure your cell phones are charged and your flashlight has fresh batteries. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.
