Mayor Hornik’s Storm Update – Winter Storm Helena #2

Dear Resident,

The National Weather Service upgraded our area to a Winter Storm Warning effective until 8:00pm. This upgrade has brought with it increased snow totals, reduced visibility and very cold temperatures. The Marlboro Office of Emergency Management (OEM) enacted the Reverse 911 system informing residents that all cars and other objects must be removed from County, State and Municipal roadways as per Township Ordinance to allow for more effective snow plowing.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) has been out since this morning removing snow from the main roadways and is in the process plowing local streets. Please note that the DPW is responsible for 200 miles of road in 32.5 square miles (not including private, State or County Roads). After the snow has stopped, it takes about 10 hours for DPW to clear a 4” snowfall. More snow takes proportionately more time. This storm is expected to bring about 6-10 inches of snow.

Please be aware that snowplows will deposit some snow at the end of your driveway. As plows drive by, snow will fall into an empty space. To lessen the volume, wait to shovel or leave 4 feet of snow at end of your driveway until after the snowplows have completed at least one pass.

Important information can be found in our ‘Surviving the Snow’ BROCHURE.
Please see the Storm Update Section of the Website for my recent emails containing links to important storm preparedness information and contacts. http://www.marlboro-nj.gov/storm/Storm_updates.html

We ask that you stay off the roads to allow clear access to plows and emergency vehicles. We will update you via Social Media and email, as necessary. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance as we work together to clear the first big winter storm of the season.

Mayor Jon Hornik
