Coronavirus Update #35

Dear Resident,

I hope everyone had a good mother’s day and was able to enjoy it virtually or in person with their children, grandchildren and mothers.

I want to start by clarifying the confusion surrounding wave parades. Last week, Colonel Patrick Callahan, State Director of Emergency Management, sent a letter to public and private schools that in person ceremonies and celebrations that invite people to gather at a specific place or a specific time to celebrate graduations, proms, etc. should be cancelled or postponed as it violates the order against large gatherings.  This caused some misunderstanding and today he clarified that the letter was not meant to prevent cars from driving by and waving to people on their lawns, but was to prevent events summoning large groups of people to a parking lot or area to gather and get out of their cars. So to clarify, wave parades, when cars drive by and the family stays on their lawn or porch, continue to be permitted in Marlboro and throughout the state.

Today, Dr. Charles Sampson, Superintendent of the FRHSD, sent an email stating that a virtual graduation ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 24.  More information on that will be forthcoming from the building principals.  They are waiting for guidance from the state but are anticipating that in-person ceremonies can be scheduled in late July.  Parents of graduating seniors will receive communication and updates from the school.

Testing and Stats – New Jersey reported 1,453 new positive test results for a statewide total of 139,945. Monmouth County has 7,029 cases with 417 positives in Marlboro. The number of hospital patients continue to trend downward, more were discharged than hospitalized and the number of new cases continues to slow.  Tomorrow, the Governor is expected to announce a statewide expanding testing program and contact tracing.

Hospitals and Health Care Emergencies – NJ Department of Health and the NJ Hospital Association wants residents to know that you should not delay going to your local emergency room or calling 911 if you are experiencing signs of a heart attack or stroke.  Hospitals and emergency rooms are safe and waiting. The Press Release is HERE.

Now what you have all been waiting for, the Spring Clean Up/Bulk Pickup Dates have been rescheduled.  The dates are weekly, by zone, scheduled throughout the month of June. The zone dates as well as what can be put curbside have been posted on the website, social media and sent via email.  Due to the increased pedestrian street traffic we are asking residents not to place items out for collection until the weekend before your scheduled date. Bulk Pickup Letter HERE.

This week is both National Police and National Hospital weeks.  Now, more than ever, we should take the opportunity to say thank you to those on the front lines. If you want to publicly thank a hospital, healthcare worker, a law enforcement officer or to recognize any essential employee, you are encouraged to use the hashtag #NJThanksYou when posting your photos, stories and messages of gratitude on any social media platform.

Have a great week.
